What's the best way to reduce CO2 emissions from the world's cars?

The world needs to cut CO2 emissions from cars. But this poses challenges for the automobile industry, especially given the current economic downturn. At Shell, we're aware that a rapid and long-term reduction in vehicle emissions requires focused and innovative action. It also raises many questions that people would like answered.

A global issue
With car manufacturing and car ownership growing rapidly in emerging markets like China, emissions need to be curbed in both developed and developing countries.

But how can we make today's conventionally-fuelled vehicles still efficient in 2020?

New technologies
Can electric cars really help reduce carbon emissions? What about hydrogen and biofuel-powered cars?

More regulation?
Transport is a complex sector with many regulatory and economic drivers. Could regulation speed up a move to more sustainable transport?
